BIBLICAL TEACHING ON MODEST DRESSING FOR CHRISTIAN WOMEN.
Modest dressing implies dressing in a way that is intended to avoid triggering lust and lustful desires. On the contrary, immodest dressing implies dressing in a way that tends to shock or offend people.
It is the deliberate exposure of one’s body tocause lust and lustful desires due to ignorance or wickedness.
When we wake up in the morning or we want to go somewhere for example a wedding event or our places of work, we have to make conscious decision on what we ought to wear.
Some of the factors to consider when determining what to wear are the weather, your occupation, modesty factor, and above all God’s law.
It is a sad commentary that the society today and the world in general is confused in regards to the clothing issue. Sexually provocative attires is the way of the day. Instead of being rebuked, it is often encouraged.
Any attempt to condemn immodest dressing leads to rejection, hatred, name calling, and terms such as it is none of your business, my dress my choice, it doesn’t matter how I dress, God knows my heart and so forth.
These negative statements coupled with the anger may lead the teachers of this subject to avoid the subject all together.
But if we have to be pleasing to God, we have to teach on modest dressing for Christian women so that the few women who have a repentant heart and are willing to change, can know what God thinks pertaining the clothing issue, repent and enter into glory when the time comes.
There is a big difference between beauty and sensuality. Beauty is not sensuality. The modern women in this corrupt and wicked generation dress for the sake of lust and not for the sake of beauty.
Women who dress for the sake of beauty put on decent attires. God will judge women who cause lust both in the streets and in the churches by putting on immodest apparels.
The word of God is clear in regards to the clothing issue, but the word of God is often violated.
1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
1Ti 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
Causes of immodest dressing. Ignorance One of the major cause of immodest dressing is ignorance. Majority of the women who dress immodestly are unaware of the havoc they cause by dressing indecently.
Most of the women who present themselves in immodest dressing styles do not understand the lust which they are causing can cause the man who is lusting after them to lose his soul.
Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Demonic Spirits. Another cause of immodest dressing is unclean spirits. Evil spirits inspire fashion designers to come up with clothing styles that are intended to cause lust and often times lead to fornication and adultery.
Wickedness. While some girls dress immodestly due to ignorance, there are other women who are aware that immodest dresses causes lust and they go on and purchase these attires.
When you tell them about Mathew 5:28 in regards to the issue of lust they get angry and respond in curses and swearing. This shows little regards to the souls of other people.
Deception Women dress immodestly because they have been deceived by Satan. Satan has made immodest dressing styles to appear fashionable in the eyes of women.
Because women think immodest dressing is fashionable, they have no desire to dress modestly.
Exposure. Parents have to be careful on what they expose their girls to at an early age. For instance, some parents need to realize that at a certain age there are some places that their young girls should not go, and there are some friends they cannot be close to.
The television. As we know, the biggest influence on kids is television. Most parents don’t bother to control what their kids are watching on the television.
For instance, some music videos are not appropriate for children because it has become a nude affair, and since it is played in the minds of these kids, they begin to think it is normal and acceptable especially when no adult is keeping them in check.
Another thing that is worrisome is the fact that some parents are actually the ones who buy these indecent clothes for their young girls.
False ideas of immodest clothing There are a lot of people who are against immodest dressing and nudity but tend to approve immodest dressing during some occasions.
For example they tend to approve immodest dressing in sporting events, for example during swimming, running, or any other reason they depict. These are all false ideas from the pits of hell.
Sporting events don’t turn immodest attires into modest, the weather doesn’t turn immodest dressing into modest.
Examples of immodest dressing. Any clothing style that clings to the body, tight cleavage clothing, any trouser that clings to the butt, dresses with long slits, miniskirts that expose the woman’s thigh, clothing’s that are transparent, lower necklines, low cut tops that show the midriff.
Millions and millions of women who died without repenting in regards to the issue of putting on indecent apparel are screaming in flames. Repent before it is too late because you never know the day or the hour when your soul will be required.
